I’m very happy to announce the launch of Connections, my first real foray into Web 2.0 territory. Connections is a user-editable website which is broken down into three levels: themes, objects, and connections. A theme is an overarching category. Some examples of possible themes: Outer Space, Countries of the World, Languages of the World, Celebrities, Video Games, Genres of Music, and so on. The objects in a theme are simply things which fall into that category: the Outer Space theme would include various stars and planets and comets, the Languages theme would include various languages, Genres of Music would include rock and roll and hiphop and jazz and so on. But the real meat and potatoes, what sets the webpage apart from anything that’s come before: Connections. For any two objects in a theme, you can author a Connection, which tells how the objects relate to each other.
It’s kind of like Wikipedia, but instead of focusing on one topic, the focus is on comparing, contrasting, and relating two objects together. Connections will not have, say, an article on Toyota: there’s no need, other websites already have that covered. But what Connections will have is, pages comparing and contrasting Toyota with Honda, Ford, Subaru, and so on. Thus, the Connections reader takes a step back from the individual trees, to survey the forest itself.
Without further ado: Connections, the New Web 2.0 Star
For now, I’ve added an interesting theme to illustrate the concept: Connections Between Different Branches of Mathematics. I’d love to hear feedback on the general style and appearance of the site!
Update: Editing is now open to the public! Right now, all edits are “Anonymous”, until I put in machinery for creating usernames.
Standby for further announcements

How To Improve Blogspot
Thank you! This project will definitely be assimilated for use in one of my supah cool projects, and one I have in mind is: a site for people to find all the connections and possible relationships between EVERYTHING as soon as they think of them, to make finding information and to connect people who have ideas but don’t know their names.
How about using this for corporate web sites? I am starting to put together a wiki section for my company web site to act as a user help section, how-to, and general information for people learning how to use our engineering software. Would your stuff make sense for that or should I stay with a wiki? What are the pros and cons?
MediaWiki is probably a better bet, Connections isn’t focused on individual topics but on relations between topics. It might be good if your business was highly focused on “X vs. Y” things, like maybe if you’re the head of the WWWF. Anyway you’d better go with MediaWiki since Connections source-code isn’t publicly released yet
