A nice exercise for those starting with Analysis is the function y(x) = x^(1/ln(x)). In particular if you ask the students to calculate its first or second derivative, you will probably get a lot of answers, some very long and complex.
Your master equation of course gives the cleanest answer.

Well, this really belonged to the article "One Equation to Rule Them All".
When it comes to Forums and the like, I am just too clumsy.
Anyway: does anybody know some other neat traps like this one?
