For the first, the Tigers are your own karma which you cannot escape. The Strawberry is the present. Live in the present and don’t dwell upon the past or the future. The past is past and there is no escaping the future.

I enjoyed reading these though, thank you. The hot and cold one sounds like Wu Wei from Taoism to me.

(Dave the third)

The second one to me is obvious. Do not hunger for that which you can not have. Don’t try to be what isn’t, just _be_.

Here's another one I just thought up.

THE META-KOAN

A student visited Zen-Master Tozan and said: "I would like to be enlightened." Tozan told the student a brilliant koan which enlightens everyone who hears it.

At that moment, the student was enlightened.

Congruent with your interpretation, how about "Do what you can do, irregardless of what others are doing?"

I thought first of 'take time as it is', but then took that thought and thought of the mice as past and present, or good and bad - taking the middle road? = do what you can do.

this was fun!
