What happens when an unstoppable force hits an immovable object? The answer is, it depends whether you’re an orthodox objectolic or a born-again forcestant. ;) Belief is the most powerful agent in the natural universe. It can out-move the unstoppable force and dislodge the immovable object. This is because of the Universal Law of Belief, which states: The Universe will never allow a sentient being to witness the violation his or her belief. Thus, the universe will never reveal a god to an atheist, nor the lack of a god to a theist.

The Universal Law of Belief provides a much more sensible explanation for certain observed phenomena in the world. It’s well-documented that virtually every living human entertains beliefs which, objectively speaking, are insane. In a world without the Universal Law, anyone who believes in God is crazy, and anyone who believes there’s no God is equally crazy. And yet, it’s something of a stretch to say that everyone is mad. With the LoB, nobody is mad, we just believe different things and the lenses through which we view life differ accordingly. It would be utter lunacy to continue taking something in faith after witnessing its falsity, but the universe will never conclusively reveal that falsity to us. At the very most, we might be presented with facts which strongly suggest a belief is false, nudging us but not forcing us to change our minds, but there will always be a “paper trail”, a way to explain it away. When you’re aware of the principle, it becomes amusing to watch people argue back and forth about things when each party is already firmly entrenched. Democrat and Republican, each believes their way is obviously best: “You’d have to be blind not to be a Democrat!” exclaims the Democrat. And she’d be right, if everyone saw the world exactly as she did. Any facts to the contrary are conveniently nudged to the edge of her peripheral vision, and the same goes for her opponent. And thank heaven, or we all really would go mad from cognitive dissonance!

The Law of Beliefs isn’t just a passive rule. We can apply it to alter reality, because we have complete and total power over the things we choose to believe. And as we change our assumptions about what is true, the cosmos shifts to accommodate our new assertions. If that sounds difficult to swallow, think of our world having a fifth dimension. Besides space and time (the first four dimensions), there’s a fifth dimension, and our decisions about where to place our faith, these decisions steer us in a five-dimensional way. Every decision represents a fork in the path, taking us to a different place in the five-dimensional multiverse, a place where our beliefs really are true.

Since we choose what to think, we choose our very reality itself. Beliefs are the steering wheel, and it’s like some sort of divine comedy that we spend so much time with our hands off that wheel! The only time we can’t freely alter the axioms of our lives is when we believe that those axioms are carved in stone. If a reader of mine suffers under such a limiting theory of mind, all I can do is provide facts which gently nudge him to reconsider, but the very Law I’m writing about prevents me from forcing anyone to change their mind ;)

Suppose you want to be better at physics. The first step is to make yourself believe it’s true. Don’t worry about objective things like previous grades in physics classes. As long as you’re not dwelling in the region of fifth-dimensional space where the Earth is flat, that objectively makes you a better physicist than Aristotle. Once you get the mind nailed down and assume the self-image of someone who’s good at physics, the objective reality of the matter will naturally follow suit, as the universe scrambles to hide anything that would contradict you– such as a poor midterm score ;)

How can you effectively train your beliefs, so as to effectively alter the reality around you? One way is through positive affirmations (see the link below). When you repeat something with the deliberate intention of brainwashing yourself, eventually you’ll succeed. It can feel very silly at first, standing in front of a mirror and saying, “I’m beautiful and sexy”, but as you practice, it’ll start to feel wonderful as you take hold of the steering wheel and guide your life where you want :)
